I received a beta invite to GrandCentral, which was recently aquired by Google.  What is it?  The idea behind GrandCentral is “one number for life”.  When you sign up you pick the area code and can choose your phone number.  After this you can assign mobile, work and home phone numbers to it.

Once I set it up, when someone calls my GrandCentral number it asks them to say their name, then all 3 of my numbers I have on my profile ring.  The caller ID shows the number of the person who called, when I pick up it tells me that they are calling (with the name they just said at the prompt) and I have 4 options:

    1. Accept the call
    2. Send the call to voicemail
    3. Send the call to voicemail and listen to the voicemail live
    4. Answer the call and record it

You can setup groups so work contacts would ring only your work phone/work cell etc as well as personalized greetings based on group membership.

Overall a very cool service.
