Whats the next step after you have a large torrent site?

Apparently, buying your own island.  In an effort to get around piracy laws ThePirateBay.org is now attempting to buy its own island - Sealand

ACFI is a group of people working for the peoples right to it’s Internets. We have made progress in Ladonia and are now working on the Micronation of Sealand.

Recently it was made clear that this country is for sale. To make sure the owners will be kopimistic and that the country won’t be governed by people that do not care about it’s future, we have come up with a plan.

With the help of all the kopimists on Internets, we want to buy Sealand. Donate money and you will become a citizien.

We’ve set up a forum to discuss how the country is supposed to function.

— It should be a great place for everybody. With high-speed Internets access, no copyright laws and vip accounts to The Pirate Bay, press officer of ACFI says.

Register and let us write history together.

I highly recommend checking out the forum, good times, good times.  Or perhaps check out the legal threats against them.

Finally retiring my first dedicated server

General, Linux No Comments »

It’s a sad day for me, I finally cancelled the first dedicated server I ever bought.  I can’t even remember when I got it but I know it was when a P4 2.4 was TOP of the line, had a whopping gig of ram along with an enormous 80 gb IDE drive. Came with 1.5 terrabytes of bandwidth per month on an amazingly fast 10 meg Cisco switch.  All this for a measely $169/month.  The only thing that can possibly describe this beauty would be:

But alas, I move on…my new box is a Dual Xeon 5130 Dual Core (Woodcrest).  8 GB DDR Registered ECC ram, 2×120gb sata drives.  100 gb remote backup, 2.4 terrabytes Tier1 bandwidth.  Monthly cost? $279.  I think it’s safe to say it was a pretty decent upgrade :)
