Mike Tice new U of M head coach?

I love profootballtalk, it’s one of the few sites I check on daily - in spite of the fact they use adbrite interstitials which drive me crazy.  Regardless, here was an interesting(and humerous) post from them

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are looking for a new head coach.  Colts coach Tony Dungy isn’t interested (though he might be after Saturday, if the Chiefs run the ball down Indy’s throat and Jim Irsay runs Dungy and Bill Polian out of town).

Another guy who was run out of an NFL organization a year ago is interested in the Minnesota job.  And his name is Michael J. “Meathead” Tice.

Tice told Bob Sansevere of the St. Paul Pioneer Press that he “would have great interest” in the job.  The former Vikings coach said that he received calls and e-mails from friends and Minnesota alumni who have encouraged him to seek it.

They said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if you came home?’ “  Tice said.  “The more I thought about it, I thought why the hell not?  Pete Carroll went from the pros to college.  Dave Wannstedt went from the pros to college.  Butch Davis took the Carolina job.  Bill Callahan took the Nebraska job.  Why not Mike Tice?”

Um, because you’re retarded?

Okay, he’s not really retarded.  And in using that term we don’t mean to offend anyone but Tice (we learned that one from Joey Porter).  Still, Tice is a certified meathead who has no business serving as the head coach of anything other than a high school team, given his admitted scalping of Super Bowl tickets and his lack of control over the Vikings, which most severely manifested itself via the Love Boat fiasco of October 2005.

And then there’s the reality, as Sansevere reports, that Tice doesn’t own a college degree.

Tice says he’s 17 to 20 credits shy of getting said degree, and the “M” says that a degree is required.

The requirement of holding a degree reportedly kept Steelers offensive line coach Russ Grimm from getting the Pitt job a couple of years ago.  Grimm, like Tice, supposedly pursued professional pigskin without first getting his sheepskin.

Tice is willing to go back to school if that’s what it takes to get the job.  “I’d take night classes. I hope there is a way to work around that.  I hope it’s not a sticking point.”

Of course, he’d have to actually pass his night classes.  And that might be the biggest sticking point of all.
